van-insuranceVan Insurance is a term used to describe Commercial Vehicle Insurance for the smaller goods carrying vehicles, usually up to 3.5T gross vehicle weight.

The basic insurance  provided by Van Insurance is the legal minimum as required by the Road Traffic Act, but the covers offered follow the same format as Private Car Insurance, i.e. Third Party Only, Third Party, Fire and Theft and Comprehensive.

The limit of indemnity for third party injury is unlimited, but the limit of indemnity for third party property damage is usually between £1,000,000 and £5,000,000 which is lower than given by Private Car Insurance. Higher limits for third party property damage may be required, e.g. for the carriage of hazardous goods, and higher limits are available via Excess Liability Insurance in the general liability market.

All van insurance policies are provided with the following additional benefits at no additional charge

  • Uninsured loss recovery service
  • Motorists legal expenses insurance
  • 24 hour claims line

These services are available to you automatically as a client and are provided with our compliments; a range of services that do attract significant charges from other providers.

Cover for loss or damage to own vehicles is restricted to the lesser of the cost of repairs or the market value of the vehicle.

Van Insurance will only cover use for carriage of own goods, unless there is a specific request to cover the  use of carriage of goods for hire or reward, e.g. haulage and couriers.

Van Insurance does not cover damage to the goods being carried, as this is covered by transit  insurance.
